1. What Smooth PDF Reader Does
Smooth PDF Reader is a browser-based document utility that enables users to:
- Convert photographic images (JPG, PNG, WebP) into organized PDF documents.
- Render PDF document pages into individual PNG or JPEG images.
- Merge multiple separate PDF documents into a combined file.
- Split or extract specific page ranges from an existing PDF.
- View and read PDF files with in-browser zooming and page navigation.
- Maintain a local history vault of generated files on their current device.
2. Local Document Processing (Zero Cloud Upload)
When you select or drop images or PDF files into Smooth PDF Reader, all processing occurs exclusively inside your device’s web browser sandbox.
- Your files are never transmitted to any external server, cloud storage provider, or third-party API.
- We do not operate backend conversion servers or remote document storage services.
- We do not utilize cloud AI APIs or machine-learning ingestion models to analyze your documents.
3. Information Processed by Your Browser
To execute conversions and render previews, your browser processes the following data locally in volatile memory:
- File Blobs & Image Pixels: Decoded within HTML5
<canvas>elements and FileReader memory buffers to compute dimensions and assemble PDF pages. - Document Filenames & Metadata: Displayed on screen using secure DOM text
manipulation (safe
textContent) to prevent script execution. - Temporary Object URLs: Generated via
URL.createObjectURL()solely to allow you to preview or trigger file downloads. These URLs are revoked when no longer needed.
4. Collection of Personal Information
We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, account passwords, physical addresses, or payment details through the core functionality of Smooth PDF Reader. You do not need to register, create an account, or log in to use any feature.
5. LocalStorage and IndexedDB Usage
Smooth PDF Reader uses standard browser client-side storage technologies for user convenience:
- localStorage: Stores non-sensitive user preferences such as your preferred interface theme (Light or Dark mode), default PDF page size (A4, Letter, Fit), and image quality settings.
- IndexedDB: High-capacity browser database used to store recently generated documents in your local "My PDFs" vault. This allows you to re-download or preview documents previously generated during your session without re-converting them.
Important Notice: Browser storage is local to your specific browser profile. It can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser cache or using the "Clear Local Vault" button in the application. Browser storage is not an encrypted backup system and should not replace your own regular file backups.
6. File Downloads and User Control
When you choose to download a generated PDF, image, or ZIP archive, the file is saved directly from your browser’s temporary memory to your computer or mobile device’s default Downloads folder. You retain complete custody and control over all downloaded files.
7. Third-Party Libraries and External Dependencies
To deliver document conversion without sending files to a server, the application loads open-source, reputable JavaScript libraries from a Content Delivery Network (Cloudflare cdnjs):
- jsPDF (v2.5.1): Browser-compatible PDF document generation.
- pdf-lib (v1.17.1): Client-side PDF page merging and binary manipulation.
- pdf.js (v3.11.174, Mozilla): Browser canvas document rendering engine.
- JSZip (v3.10.1): In-memory ZIP archive creation for batch page downloads.
These libraries execute solely in your local browser sandbox and do not transmit document data to external servers.
8. Cookies, Tracking, and Analytics
Smooth PDF Reader does not use advertising cookies, marketing trackers, fingerprinting scripts, or third-party behavioral analytics (such as Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel). We do not track your activity across third-party websites.
9. Hosting Infrastructure and Technical Logs
When you access our website, the web hosting provider (such as GitHub Pages or a static CDN host) may automatically receive standard technical information via HTTP/HTTPS request headers. This technical information may include:
- Your Internet Protocol (IP) address.
- Browser type and version.
- Operating system.
- Referring website URL.
- Date, time, and requested static file path.
This server log data is collected by hosting infrastructure for essential security, network routing, and DDoS prevention. We do not correlate server access logs with any individual identity or document conversion activity.
10. Data Retention and Deletion
Because we do not store your documents on any server, we have no copies of your files to retain or delete on our end. All files in your "My PDFs" vault exist solely inside your local browser’s IndexedDB. You can purge all stored documents instantly by:
- Clicking "Clear Local Vault" in the My PDFs section.
- Clicking "Clear Stored Documents" in Settings.
- Clearing your web browser’s cookies and site data for this domain.
11. Device and Browser Permissions
Smooth PDF Reader does not request broad file system access, contact lists, GPS location, or background device permissions. When you choose to select photos or documents, you do so voluntarily using your operating system's standard file selection dialog.
12. Children’s Privacy
Smooth PDF Reader is a general document utility and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the European Union). Because we do not collect personal information, we do not knowingly solicit or maintain data from children.
13. Security Measures and Technical Limitations
We implement industry-standard secure frontend practices:
- Delivering the site over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Using safe DOM text manipulation (such as
textContent) to mitigate cross-site scripting (XSS). - Validating file types and file sizes prior to processing.
- Revoking temporary object URLs to prevent browser memory leaks.
Honest Limitation Notice: No internet transmission or browser environment can be guaranteed to be 100% immune from compromise. The security of client-side operations depends in part on the security of your own device, operating system, and web browser.
14. User Rights and Requests
Depending on your jurisdiction (such as under the European GDPR, UK GDPR, or California CCPA/CPRA), you have rights regarding your personal data. Because we do not store personal data or user accounts on our servers, we hold no user files to access, modify, or erase on our infrastructure. You hold direct, immediate control over all data stored on your device through your browser settings.
15. International Users
Smooth PDF Reader is hosted on globally distributed static content networks. Because document conversion is performed locally on your device, your document contents remain within your geographic device boundary.
16. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect modifications in our software or legal requirements. When updates occur, the "Effective Date" at the top of this document will be revised accordingly.
